Boys and Girls in America - The Hold Steady

This is a weird kind of album. It has everything you want...sort of. Amazing songwriting and instrumentals. The voice? So strange. Sounds kind of like he's just really drunk or...something? It's so hard to describe how he intentionally slurs some of his words.

My Dad played this album a lot when I was younger. That's a big part of its place in my life. But just like everything else on this list, these songs all hold up for me today too.

The last thing I would mention about this album is how poetic the lyrics are. It's really impressive for how playful the music is. So if you give this album a listen, pull up the words just in case.

Sex. Drugs. Rock 'n' Roll.
