This album isn't without its flaws, but boy is it smart. You've got a big sound here. This is a good, big sound. I think what we have here is something that needs to be listened to out loud with a good old speaker. I think you won't do this album justice with any kind of headphones, only because this music begs to fill the space.
The bass acts as a weighted blanket in this album, making you feel secure and warm during the duration of these more ethereal and thumpy beats and notes. This is a key to the whole album, which I would give a milky quality. Mmmm...yes. It's tasty and smooth. Maybe almond milk. Whole milk.
I would be a loser though if I didn't mention the fact that this album has no dynamic changes. Like...almost non at all. I think Beach House could have done a lot more with surges of sound fading back to quiet and then back into firm sound again. I find this to be a missed opportunity.
Hmm...the album cover is a bunch of dots.
Overall, this album gives a lush rainforest of noises that don't feel too similar to one another that you loath them, but not so disjointed that they don't make sense together.
Wax. Very waxy. Go listen to this album and tell me it isn't a little waxy. How do you spell waxy?
Lovely 8.5
